A specialist guided
by compassion

Dr Nadia Duvenhage's entire medical career, from her undergraduate years through to her subspeciality qualification, was built within the academic environment of the University of Pretoria, one of South Africa's foremost medical training institutions. Her rheumatology training drew additionally on the expertise of the University of the Witwatersrand's rheumatology faculty, widely regarded as among the finest in the country. She further completed the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) online course in 2018, and remains enrolled in EULAR's continuing programme.

What defines her practice, however, goes beyond the qualifications. During the years she stepped back from clinical work to care for her family, she gained a different kind of expertise. She understands what it means to navigate a complex medical system as a patient, to sit with uncertainty, and to need a physician who listens as carefully as she examines. This empathy is central to how she practises medicine.

From 2025, she returned to active clinical work at Chris Hani Baragwaneth and Kalafong Academic Hospitals, keeping her knowledge and skills current. She now returns to private practice because she believes that medicine is fundamentally about the relationship between doctor and patient. Her patients find a physician who takes time, explains clearly, and genuinely cares about the outcomes. She sincerely strives to provide the best integrated patient care possible, because time spent with each patient is not a luxury. It is the foundation of good medicine.

More than
joint pain

Rheumatology is the subspeciality of internal medicine concerned with the immune system and its relationship to the joints, muscles, bones and organs. Many rheumatic conditions are not immediately obvious. They can look like fatigue, skin changes, recurrent infections, or vague aches that come and go before a pattern becomes clear.

Part of what a rheumatologist does is connect those dots. A diagnosis in this field often involves a careful clinical history, blood tests, imaging and time, and a physician willing to sit with complexity rather than rush to a label.

If you have been referred to a rheumatologist, or suspect you may need one, the right first step is a conversation. Dr Duvenhage consults directly with patients and welcomes referrals from general practitioners and other specialists.

"She sincerely strives to provide the best integrated patient care possible, and is convinced that time spent with each patient is not a luxury. It is the foundation of good medicine."

A physician with
depth at every level

Rheumatology sits at one of the most demanding ends of specialist medicine. The path there runs through a full medical degree, then specialist qualification as an internist and physician, and then a further subspeciality qualification. Dr Duvenhage completed all three stages, driven by a passion for the field and trained across the University of Pretoria and the University of the Witwatersrand rheumatology faculty. She brings more than two decades of accumulated clinical knowledge to every consultation.
